Key Takeaways from Google Search Central Live Canada 2026

Google Search Central Live Canada 2026 🇨🇦  was awesome. I walked away with a clearer view of where search is heading, and I also got to connect with some of the coolest SEO professionals in Toronto.

There is real value in hearing directly from Google’s team. The added context, especially the “why” behind the guidance, made the sessions feel practical and grounded. My favourite talks were from Danny Sullivan and Martin Splitt.

I left with a lot of takeaways, as well as a few ideas I’m excited to test. One point that really stuck with me was hearing Danny Sullivan reinforce that we shouldn’t panic about AI search: “Good SEO is good GEO.” That felt validating, because many of us already know that great SEO is the bedrock of GEO.

A few other notes I’m still thinking about:

– Good content still matters. But more than ever, it needs to be authentic, useful, and hard to replace(non-commodity). But what counts as “hard to replace” depends on your audience and what they value most.

– Query fan-outs are a clear sign that search is becoming more layered. Content needs to meet real user needs with depth and clarity, without flooding the web or crossing into scaled content abuse.

– Structured data is more important than ever, but it’s still not the most important thing. Content is still king.

Also, some SEO myths were put to rest:

– You don’t need to “chunk” content just for AI. Google was able to figure out what people wanted with 2 words for decades, and now they have much more than two words in a search query/prompt. (So trust Google that they understand the user intent better than everyone.)

– You don’t need to obsess over conversational keywords, just be authentic and use what makes sense for the user.

– You don’t need to capture every synonym for fan-out queries.

Really glad I had the chance to attend. Hoping to see more events like this in Canada in the future.

Thank you, Google.
